Jacksonville, FL (July 18, 2020) – Around 2 a.m. this morning, a man was killed in a rear-end collision that took place on a major Jacksonville highway.

The accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, took place in the eastbound lanes of I-10 around the area of Chaffee Road. Numerous responders were immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to police reports, a 36-year-old man from Middleburg was headed eastbound on the highway when he was suddenly struck from behind by an SUV that was traveling faster than his van. The impact was so forceful that it caused the van to lose control.

The van drove off the side of the highway, where it started to flip over and eject the driver. Paramedics were present at the scene and tragically pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

The 37-year-old driver of the SUV only suffered from minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The roadway was blocked for an extended period of time in the area.

No further details have been released but the investigation is currently ongoing.
