Jacksonville, FL (May 6, 2020) – The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that a truck driver was killed in a distracted driving accident caused by an 18-year-old on I-95.
The accident took place early this morning when an 18-year-old female from Palm Coast was traveling behind a semi-truck when she became distracted by her phone and began to drift into the other lane of traffic but started to spin in her vehicle.
The front of her sedan collided with the rear wheels of the semi-truck, causing the driver to lose control. The truck ran off the side of the road and immediately overturned. The sedan ended up in a grassy shoulder alongside the highway.
The semi-truck driver, who was identified as a 56-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to his injuries. The 18-year-old girl suffered minor injuries.
No further details have been released but the investigation is ongoing.
