Fernandina Beach, FL – Fatal DUI Accident on Duck Lake Drive
Fernandina Beach, FL (November 10, 2019) – Police claim that one woman was arrested following a fatal DUI accident on Duck Lake Drive in Nassau County.
The accident took place last night, November 9, around 9:30 p.m. as the driver of a Chevy Cobalt was leaving a party with two people in her car. A passenger in the back seat made multiple attempts to exit the vehicle when she either jumped or fell out of the moving car. She landed face down in the roadway. Witnesses called 911 as the driver of the Cobalt, drove off and fled the area leaving the woman lying lifeless in the street.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the female victim bleeding out of her nose and mouth, face down in the street. The 25-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver who has since been arrested and charged DUI manslaughter, DUI involving death, and failing to immediately stop and render aid. She has been identified as 23-year-old Ashley Collum from Yulee.
The investigation of the accident is ongoing.
