Starke, FL – Hit-and-Run Crash at NE 17th Ave Intersection
Starke, FL (November 7, 2019) – On Tuesday evening around 8:15 p.m., a hit-and-run crash took place at the intersection of Northeast 17th Avenue and State Road 230. The crash happened only a short distance away from the Clay County line.
The Highway Patrol immediately responded to the scene of the accident where they found that a 1998 Volvo was traveling south on 17th Avenue approaching the intersection while a 1993 Nissan pickup was traveling east on SR-230.
The driver of the Volvo traveled through the intersection, which is when the front of the Nissan also entered simultaneously and struck the rear of the Volvo. The Volvo then rotated and ran into a stop sign.
The driver of the Volvo took off and was not able to be located by police. Police claim that the hit-and-run driver failed to stop at a stop sign in the area.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as a 21-year-old Starke man. He was taken to a Gainesville hospital with serious injuries.
Charges are pending and the investigation is currently ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
