High Springs, FL (December 19, 2019) – On Wednesday evening, a fatal head-on collision took place about an hour away from Jacksonville in High Springs.
According to police, the accident took place on US-441 when a High Springs couple was involved in a head-on collision with an SUV. They were not the first car that the SUV hit before crashing straight into them.
73-year-old Jerry Harrell was driving an Explorer and rear-ended a slow pickup truck around the High Springs area around 6:30 p.m. The SUV then continued on into the other lane of traffic, where it struck a Kia Soul head-on.
There was an elderly couple inside the Soul identified as 88-year-old Stanley Herman and 86-year-old Edie Herman. They passed away at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries due to the collision. The driver of the other involved vehicle was also injured but they are expected to recover.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.
